aespa‘s Karina recently revealed in a livestream that she suffered from corneal abrasion. It resulted in her having to use protective contact lens for a while.
Although lightheartedly joked about it with Giselle, many fans ended up worried about her condition.

A corneal abrasion is a scratch or scrape on the surface of the cornea, the clear, transparent front part of the eye, often caused by trauma or injury. Common causes include trauma or injury to the eye, such as from fingernails, makeup brushes, tree branches, or foreign objects like dust or sand. It can also be caused by rubbing the eye too hard, or by poorly fitted contact lens.
If not treated well, it can lead to infection or ulcers on the cornea, which can impact vision in the long term. Fans noticed that Karina had been struggling with her eye pain for some time. She was seen consistently tending to her eye on stage.
Karina was probably already struggling with her eye pain for quite some time… she’s always blinking very frequently and during performances, she hides or only touch her eye when the lights are not focus on her or she’s at the back so we just don’t know until giselle mentions… https://t.co/V7eNSJMUps pic.twitter.com/LlcTSdylv5

As an idol, the harsh stage lights and camera flashes can cause one’s eyes to weaken. For Karina, who already suffers from injury, this can only serve to worsen her condition. Fans hope that she can take better care of herself in the future.
Fellow member NingNing is also known to have an eye injury. NingNing’s vision is so impaired from an old injury that she is nearly blind in her right eye. You can read more about it below.
