At the end of July 2025, an exciting new Swedish thriller, An Honest Life, is set to make its way to Netflix. Starring Simon Lööf and Nora Rios, the film is directed by the award-winning director Mikael Marcimain. Here’s everything we know so far about An Honest Life on Netflix.
An Honest Life is an upcoming Swedish Netflix Original thriller film directed by Mikael Marcimain. The film is based on the Swedish thriller novel of the same name by Joakim Zander. Linn Gottfrdsson adapted the screenplay.
Anna Anthony produces the film for FLX. Pontus Edgren, Joshua Mehr, Joakim Zander, and Astri von Arbin Ahlander also serve as Executive Producers on the project.
Mikael Marcimain had the following to say about the film to Netflix:
“After a number of period projects, I wanted to make a contemporary film that’s exciting, rawly sensual and loaded with social commentary. Joakim Zander’s emotional, brutal and dark novel, “An Honest Life”, a coming of age thriller set at a university felt like perfect cinematic material. It’s a gripping, anarchistic love story with complex characters and should allow for a classic yet punk rock approach to the making of the film”
When is An Honest Life coming to Netflix?
It has been confirmed that “An Honest Life” will be released on Netflix on July 31, 2025.

What is the plot of An Honest Life?
Netflix has provided a synopsis for the film:
“Simon arrives in Lund full of anticipation and ready for his life to really begin; but is quickly disappointed by law school. During a violent protest march he meets the anarchistic young woman Max and falls in love. She dazzles him with a world of excess, lies and huge risks – and when he realizes the damage that’s done, it’s already too late to escape. “An Honest Life” is a thriller about betrayal, class and the appeal of living outside the law.”

Who are the cast members of An Honest Life?
Simon Lööf plays Simon. The actor has yet to star in a Netflix project, and his acting credits to date have been in Swedish productions, including TV shows such as Eagles, Threesome, and So Long, Marianne. So far, his only feature-length film is Paul W.S. Anderson’s In The Lost Lands.

Nora Rios plays Max. Like her co-star, Rios has yet to star in a Netflix project, too. She is most well-known for starring in television projects such as Caliphate, The Head, Heder, and Heartbeats.

Peter Andersson has starred in several major feature films, including the original The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and its sequels, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest. He has starred in the Underworld franchise and 2014’s Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. For Netflix, his only project so far has been the TV series The Unlikely Murderer.
