If there’s one thing fans of Arcane haven’t been starved of since the series wrapped up with its second and final season, it’s behind-the-scenes goodness. Through books, behind-the-scenes documentaries, and now a making-of exhibition, there is so much for fans of the show to explore. We just had a walkthrough of the Arcane exhibition, and we’ve put together some photos of what we saw.
The exhibition, located at Union Bouliste Annécienne, is open all week during the Annecy Film Festival from 9 am to 6 pm CET. The exhibition is in addition to other appearances from Arcane and Riot throughout Annecy week. A signing session is being held on June 12th in addition to a Studio Focus: Riot Games Music panel that took place on Tuesday, May 9th. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to find any recaps of that panel online at this time. This is the second year running Netflix has bought a big exhibition to Annecy, with last year being an incredible tribute to Chicken Run over the years.
Seasons 1 and 2 of Arcane are now on Netflix globally. Future spin-offs are currently in development.
Arcane Season 2 Episode 5 ‘Blisters and Bedrock’ Colourful Storyboards
In the exhibit, there were multiple colourful storyboards from the fifth episode of the second season of Arcane, Blisters and Bedrock.
The first storyboard, beautifully drawn, depicts the scene where Jinx and Asha delve into the abandoned mining tunnels where Vander and Silco were once employed. In this scene, Jinx and Asha come upon bioluminescent mushrooms, which illuminate the tunnel in response to loud noises.
The next storyboard showcases the incredible fight between Warwick and Vi. The latter is a victim of Singed’s experiments, who transformed the once-kind-hearted Vander into a bloodthirsty monster. Vi can be seen using her hextech gauntlets to defend herself, her sister Jinx, and Asha.
The last storyboard is the heart-wrenching moment when Vander overcomes his bloodthirsty nature and embraces his adopted daughters. This is the first time since Jinx and Violet were children that they have been able to embrace their adoptive father.
Arcane Season 2 Episode 9 ‘The Dirt Under Your Nails’ Colourful Storyboard
In the war for Piltover, Ambessa’s forces surround Mel and Caitlyn. A shimmer-infused Noxian warrior, alongside the helmets of other Noxian warriors, can be seen.
Original Storyboards for Arcane Season 1
In the early stages of production, storyboards are illustrated to provide a reference for how a scene will look when filming and animation begin.
The first image depicts Viktor experimenting with the Hexcore, accompanied by his assistant, Skye. You can also see from the image of the intimate scene between Jayce and Mel.
The second image shows the scene between Silco and Jinx, where the latter baptises his daughter in the dirty water of Zaun. Certainly a much more peaceful and meaningful way than what happened between Silco and Vander, which resulted in the former losing his eye.
Concept Art for VI
A fantastic piece of art, possibly a concept piece, of Vi. Seen here without her tattoos, which are arguably covered by the shadowing, but she is still rocking her iconic haircut.
Beautiful Red Glass Pane
It’s unclear to us where in Arcane this beautiful glass pane drawing is from, but it is an incredible art piece.
Viktor and Jayce
Partners in science, and as close as brothers, this iconic scene shows Jayce inside the mind of Viktor, who is currently in the midst of his glorious revolution, converting the populace of Piltover. A beautifully animated scene sees Jayce and Viktor come to an understanding, with the former refusing to abandon his closest friend.
Arcane fans, what do you think of some of the pieces from the exhibit? Let us know in the comments below!
