The Thursday Night Murder Club, Fixed, Wednesday, Hostage – Pictures: Netflix
With July now here, it’s already time to take a look ahead at the August 2025 offerings coming up, starting with the big hitters for the Netflix Original lineup. Below, we’ll take a look at all the biggest new Netflix Originals that should be on your radar throughout the month.
We’ll be covering all the major August 2025 releases in the coming weeks, which will also include the slate of new licensed titles as they get announced. For everything still to come to Netflix throughout the remainder of the year, we’ve got you covered. Until then, here’s a look at the biggest new Netflix Original titles making their way onto Netflix this August:

Every time Netflix puts a bet on Sofia Carson, it pays off, making her a certified Netflix hitmaker. Will lightning strike once again in August with a brand new, very British-infused romantic comedy? We’ll get to find out. Coming from director Iain Morris, who is best known for comedy projects like The Inbetweeners, this movie brings to life the novel by Julia Whelan with Allison Burnett and Melissa Osborne helming the script.
Carson plays the role of Anna De La Vega, who is an ambitious American student currently living in the iconic university city of Oxford. While she’s knuckling down to begin with, she quickly falls in love with Jamie Davenport, played by Corey Mylchreest.

Wednesday Season 2 – Volume 1
Picture: Netflix
Netflix’s biggest English hit of all time is finally coming back for its long-awaited second season. Sadly, the series is following a number of other high-profile shows in being split up this time around, but the wait between volumes 1 and 2 won’t be horrific with just a month between them. All your favorites from the first season are back, in addition to some very high-profile additions in season 2, not least Lady Gaga.

In the works for many years now and having faced multiple times where it looks like the movie would never get made or released, it’s frankly a miracle that we’re getting Fixed on our screens in August. Bolstered by an impressive voice cast lineup, including Adam Devine, Kathryn Hahn, and Idris Elba, the movie is a non-stop reel of gags and bits, and it works mainly well thanks to its simple yet charming visual style. The story of the movie is simple: Bull is enjoying life, but soon finds out he’s about to get the snip and must do what he can to enjoy his final moments of freedom.
Our review for this is already out in the wild, and Andrew seemed, for the most part at least, to enjoy it. I equally enjoyed attending the premiere at Annecy Film Festival, where the movie brought the house down with lots of laughs throughout and a massive round of applause at the end.

There’s no denying that Netflix’s UK team has been on an incredible run over the past couple of years, pumping out banger after banger, and from what we’ve seen thus far, this new limited political thriller series headlined by Suranne Jones is yet another winner. No doubt serving as a suitable stopgap for the return of The Diplomat later this year, the series was previously known as The Choice and sees the UK Prime Minister and the French President in a precarious position when both are put into compromised positions.

My Life with the Walter Boys (Season 2)

Although things are moving quickly on season 3 of My Life with the Walter Boys, the same can’t be said for season 2, which has felt like it’s taken forever to return to our screens, but in late August, we’ll get to return to the beautiful scenery and coming-of-age drama. We’ll see the return of all your favorites like Jackie, George, Cole, Alex, Danny, Will, Nathan and even some fresh new faces.
Per Netflix, here’s what you can expect from the new season:
“After leaving Silver Falls following Alex’s love confession and her kiss with Cole, Jackie Howard spent the summer in New York City. When Katherine convinces her to return to Colorado, Jackie is determined to make amends with Alex and set boundaries with Cole while finding her place within the Walter family. But fitting back in isn’t that easy. Alex – who changed a lot over the summer – isn’t too thrilled about Jackie’s attempts to reconnect, as he’s focused on training for a risky rodeo event (and enjoying all of the new attention he’s getting). Meanwhile, Cole takes on a new role at school, but when that doesn’t quite fill the void left by not playing football, his old ways creep back in and cause drama. As Jackie gains acceptance in Silver Falls while trying to hold onto her Howard identity, she’s forced to make a choice that could destroy everything she’s worked to rebuild.”
Please note that we’ve got an asterisk next to the date above because the date has yet to be officially confirmed by Netflix and could shift. If that happens, we’ll keep you posted.

Long Story Short

A new animated adult sitcom from the creator of Bojack Horseman? Sold? Good. Need a little more? How dare you. The new comedy certainly shares some DNA with Bojack Horseman, with creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg teaming up with a long-term collaborator for a show that depicts a family and their internal dynamics across multiple decades.

British seems to be the running theme of many of August’s biggest new Netflix Originals, and that’s certainly the case with The Thursday Murder Club, which has assembled a cast full of British royalty. Chris Columbus—best known for directing the first Harry Potter film, Home Alone, and The Christmas Chronicles 2—is on board to direct.
Adapting the best-selling novel by Richard Osman, the movie pits a number of retirees who unite once a week for a murder mystery afternoon, accompanied by tea and biscuits. One week, however, they have to take everything they’ve learned over the years and put it into action when an actual murder lands on their doorstep.

Love is Blind UK (Season 2)
Love is Blind remains Netflix’s biggest reality show in its arsenal, with the US show renewed through to at least season 11 (and possibly even beyond, according to our research), and also going strong is the UK variant hosted by Emma and Matt Willis. We know it’s going strong because the series has already landed itself an early season 3 renewal order with season 2 of the show, directed and written by Sarah Carnie, scheduled to drop sometime in August.
Looking further ahead to the remainder of 2025 as we enter the Fall 2025 slate, there are a bunch of movies to look forward to in addition to the big return of Stranger Things, which will release over three volumes to take us into 2026.
