We’ll soon be coming up on the two-year anniversary of when Netflix launched the long-awaited follow-up to the 2000 Aardman movie Chicken Run. Titled Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, the movie landed on Netflix globally in December 2023, and as part of its release strategy on Netflix, a game was put into development called Chicken Run: Eggstraction. That game is now due out in October 2025, but will no longer be coming to Netflix as originally planned.
The game was first announced by Netflix and Aardman in 2023, with initial plans to launch in 2024. At the time, it was noted that the game would be released exclusively on Netflix Games. While that never materialized, game development continued throughout 2024. Last week, we received the news that Chicken Run Extraction was on the way, but it would be going multiplatform. We’ve now confirmed that Netflix won’t be among those platforms.
Described as a top-down heist game, Chicken Run: Eggstraction picks up where the 2023 Netflix film Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget left off, following the gang as they team up once again to save chicken-kind. Bella Ramsey and Josie Sedgwick-Davies reprise their roles as Molly and Frizzle in the game, which will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
With the news of Chicken Run: Eggstraction skipping a Netflix Games release, the upcoming slate of titles looks pretty slim. The new Rebel Moon game is still in beta and was initially scheduled for a release in July (unclear whether that’s still the case.
The news arrives at a time of rebuilding for Netflix Games, which has shifted its focus over the past year or so under new leadership. As part of that pivot, we’ve seen a few dozen games removed from the service altogether, including 23 planned removals for July 2025, which has come as a shock to the developers behind these titles. We’ve also seen numerous games that were put into development and planned for release, such as Chicken Run: Eggstraction, which also had its release scrapped. The last major round of scrapped releases occurred in late January 2025, when we received word that titles such as Tales of the Shire, Don’t Starve Together, and Compass Point: West would no longer be released on Netflix Games.
