Both intentionally and unintentionally, some actors appear in the same sort of roles throughout their careers. While this can be a source of comedy for fans, it can sometimes be frustrating for both the actor and netizens.
Netizens Are Tired Of Seeing A 33-Year-Old Actor Continually Cast As A High School Student
Some fans have recently expressed a desire to see a popular idol-actor appear in a different type of role.
In 2012, the K-Pop duo JJ Project debuted. Eventually, the two members, Jay B and Jinyoung, re-debuted as members of GOT7 in 2014.
GOT7’s members have acted in different projects, but Jinyoung has appeared in the most roles thus far. The number of roles increased following GOT7’s departure from JYP Entertainment and their focus on solo endeavors afterward.
Recently, the K-Drama The Witch premiered as Jinyoung’s first acting project since his discharge from the military. The Witch is based on the webtoon of the same name and is about a woman who seems to cause tragic events to happen to men who show romantic interest in her.
This new series has sparked a discussion of Jinyoung’s roles, with some fans expressing a desire to see him appear in something “happier.”
To be clear, fans are not actually tired of Jinyoung’s acting in any way.
From personal experience, Jinyoung’s acting projects, like the film A Stray Goat, are extremely heavy and often result in tears. Other roles like his appearance in Devil Judge are very serious and at times dark, which works for K-Dramas outside of the romance genre.
Viewers of A Christmas Carol, have often sworn to not watch the film again due to how heartbreaking it is. Even Jinyoung’s lighter roles, like in He Is Psychometric and Yumi’s Cells, are not entirely light — Jinyoung’s character is stabbed, his parents died tragically among many things in the former, while his character in Yumi’s Cells does not get the girl.
Jinyoung’s impressive acting skills are apparent in any role he takes on, however, it makes sense that fans would like to see him in something lighthearted!
jinyoung has zero comfort dramas like next time he should overcome his fear of happiness and give us something similar to summer strike
