Recently, a video featuring LE SSERAFIM‘s Chaewon has earned mixed reactions online for including fatphobic content.

LE SSERAFIM’s Chaewon appeared on the 빠더너스 BDNS YouTube channel series Tailored Chat alongside host Moon Sang Hoon. 

The channel himself scripts the program, and usually features him and the guest having snarky exchanges for comedy. During Chaewon’s episode, Moon mentions how LE SSERAFIM charted on the Billboard Hot 100, with Chaewon mentioning that they ranked sixth on the chart.

The host then questions whether this was a noteworthy achievement, with Chaewon responding, “Being heavy isn’t something to be proud of?” as the subtitles say, “Your stomach is sagging about,” a joke made by pretending she misheard him.

When Moon begins to repeat about their Hot 100 entry, Chaewon jokes in the same way, saying, “Oh, you’re saying 100 kilograms is considered heavy?” as the subtitles say, “You weigh 100 kilos and you’re sagging?”

One more similar joke is made when Moon says to move on, with the idol responding, “Oh, you’re saying you weigh over 100 kilograms?” as the subtitles say, “How can you move when you’re 100 kilos?”

This portion of the program was reposted to X, where netizens discussed it and some found it to be funny.

Others were not amused by the fat phobic jokes made, even as they were scripted. Rather than placing blame on Chaewon, many questioned the program and why it used fat phobic jokes and disses in general as comedy.
