Filming on Netflix’s biopic series The Altruists, which takes a look back at the relationship of Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison (and the various crimes they committed along the way with their crypto trading company FTX and Alameda Research), is underway for Netflix in Vancouver, Canada. We’ve got your first looks direct from the set and one new casting to report on.
First announced in late May 2025 with Julia Garner and Anthony Boyle attached the very next day, the series comes from Higher Ground Productions and Vox Media Studios, with the plot being focused primarily on the love story between FTX co-founder and chief executive Sam Bankman-Fried and his girlfriend and business associate, Caroline Ellison. A logline for the show continues, “Described as the wild romance of Gen Z’s own Bonnie and Clyde, the series centers on two hyper-smart, ambitious young idealists who tried to remake the global financial system in the blink of an eye – and then seduced, coaxed, and teased each other into stealing $36 billion.”
Eight episodes of the show are currently in production in Vancouver, with production set to kick off on July 1st. The shoot is planned to last almost five months, with a tentative wrap date set for November 24, 2025. Jackie Hoyt and Graham Moore are co-showrunners with confirmed directors on the project, including James Ponsoldt and Kyle Patrick Alvarez, thus far.
Also on set is Greta Carew Johns, who becomes the third actor attached to the show following Boyle and Garner. She’s playing an unknown role in the series, although looking at the pictures, she could be playing a love interest of some description. The Australian-born actress is known for roles in Supergirl, A Million Little Things, and Meeting Mr. Christmas, as well as for her voice work in the podcast Escaping Denver and an early appearance in Thor: Ragnarok
Here are more of the snaps we’ve exclusively obtained, which were taken on July 1, 2025, and depict Boyle with curly black hair, a trademark of SBF, with his character walking across a parking lot with some rather goofy gestures, it must be said.
