IU recently starred alongside fellow actor Park Bo Gum in the Netflix series When Life Gives You Tangerines, sparking a worldwide sensation.
On a recent YouTube interview show, Park Eun Ha’s Exchange, IU shared never-before-told stories about her co-star. IU unexpectedly revealed the time she was shocked by the way Bo Gum spoke in a strict and firm way to another actor.
“Bo Gum is not only a good person but also a very clear and principled one. He always makes sound judgments, and I really felt that as someone the same age as him. There was one moment that really showed me that — during our year-long shoot, no matter how unwell he was, he always reassured everyone that he was okay and helped keep the mood light. But there was one time I saw him speak without his usual smile.”
One of the child actors had repeated a bad slang word. Park Bo Gum immediately corrected them gently, but firmly.
“One of the child actors, a very young one, repeated a bad word that seemed like they had just heard it somewhere and remembered it, probably without knowing what it meant. It wasn’t a terribly bad word, but still inappropriate. Bo Gum gently put his hands on the kid’s shoulders and said, ‘Do you know what that word means? Promise me you won’t say that again, okay?’ That really left an impression on me.”
Park Bo Gum was praised by both IU and the host for being a true adult.
“Watching him fulfill that role as an adult made me think he was really admirable. The child actor also quickly promised not to say it again, which was sweet. Seeing that, I thought that Bo Gum is someone who’s very sure and firm — and that’s something I really appreciate.”
