“Die with a Smile” by Gaga and Mars is their first duet together — and it’s safe to say it was long overdue.

“Bruno and I have a lot of mutual respect for each other and were talking about collaborating,” Gaga gushed in a statement when the song dropped. “I was finishing up my own album in Malibu and one night after a long day he asked me to come to his studio to hear something he was working on.”

The musicians wound up staying up all night to write and record the song. “Bruno’s talent is beyond explanation,” Gaga added. “His musicianship and vision is next level. There’s no one like him.”

Meanwhile, the “Marry You” artist called Gaga “an icon, and she makes this song magical. I’m so excited for everyone to hear it.”

“If the world was ending, I’d wanna be next to you / If the party was over, and our time on Earth was through / I’d wanna hold you, just for a while / And die with a smile,” Gaga and Mars, who are both up for two Grammys this year, belt in the passionate chorus.

Released in August, the song hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January.

The Grammys are broadcasting live on CBS from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and streaming on Paramount+.
