A former idol who was accused of a serious crime against one of her former members is expecting her first child. The announcement comes three years after she terminated her contract with her former agency.
Ogino Yuka is a former member of the Japanese idol group NGT48, who now works. After terminating her contract with her agency, Horipro, in 2022, she began working as a freelance model and YouTuber. In 2019, she was accused of orchestrating an assault on her then-member Yamaguchi Maho.
On December 8, 2018, Yamaguchi was assaulted by two male “fans” who had been lying in wait for her. After entering her apartment, the men–both 25-year-old college students–grabbed her face and tried to pin her to the ground. Following the attack, Yamaguchi unfollowed four of her members on Instagram. One was Ogino.
Later, Yamaguchi claimed in a series of tweets that some of her NGT48 members had leaked her personal information to her assailants, including her address and schedule, so that they would know when she would be returning home.
Ogino, who was also suspected of bullying Yamaguchi, denied being involved in planning the assault. She remained a member of NGT48 until her graduation in 2021, and attempted to return to YouTube in 2024. Her comeback was met with backlash from netizens.
