The court has officially rejected NJZ‘s (NewJeans) attempt to overturn the ban on their independent activities, marking another setback in the group’s ongoing legal battle with their agency, ADOR.
On April 16, the Seoul Central District Court’s Civil Division 50 dismissed the objection filed by all five members of NJZ. The group had been seeking to challenge a previous court ruling that prohibited them from engaging in solo promotions and signing individual contracts, including those related to advertising and endorsements.
The legal dispute dates back to November last year when NJZ publicly declared they were terminating their exclusive contracts with ADOR. However, in a ruling issued on March 21, the court sided with ADOR and granted the agency’s request to prevent the members from carrying out activities without the label’s involvement.
Court Accepts ADOR’s Injunction Against NJZ (NewJeans) Regarding Independent Activities
The court found that there wasn’t enough evidence to prove ADOR had breached the contract or that the relationship between the company and the artists had completely broken down. Shortly after, NJZ filed an official objection.
The hearing for the injunction took place on April 9 but lasted only around ten minutes, with only legal representatives from both sides present. The session ended without any changes in position or new arguments from either party.

As of now, NJZ remains inactive following their last group appearance at ComplexCon in Hong Kong on March 23. The recent court decision means the group is still not allowed to pursue any activities independently from ADOR.
