According to legal sources on March 4, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office decided on February 25 to grant him deferred prosecution for charges related to aggravated assault. This legal decision means that while authorities recognize he committed a crime, they have opted not to pursue formal charges based on factors such as his personal background, the circumstances of the incident, and the severity of the offense.

The case dates back to August last year when San E was accused of attacking a man, referred to as “A,” near the entrance of a park in Mapo-gu, Seoul. A reportedly sustained injuries around his eye and teeth.

At the time, police charged both San E and his father — who was present at the scene — along with A, under mutual assault allegations. However, because all parties involved chose not to press charges against one another, the case was initially closed under South Korea’s victim consent-based prosecution rule.

San E’s situation changed when authorities confirmed that A had suffered significant injuries, leading to his charges being escalated to aggravated assault. Following the legal decision, San E issued a statement through his lawyer, expressing remorse.

I sincerely apologize to the victim. While I regret that my apology must come in this way first, I truly hope to meet them in person to ask for forgiveness. I also want to apologize to those who were disappointed in me. I accept any criticism for my actions.
