Rapper Sleepy has announced stern legal action against his former agency, TS Entertainment (TS hereon), for filing criminal charges against him despite the courts ruling in favor of him in a five-year legal battle with them.
On April 10, Sleepy announced his intent to file a lawsuit against TS on his social media account, stating that the decision was “for the sake of protecting [his] family.” The rapper provided some context behind the current dynamic between him and TS as well.
It all started in 2019 when Sleepy filed a civil suit against TS to confirm that he was no longer bound to the agency through an exclusive contract. In December of the same year, the agency sued Sleepy, demanding damages related to broadcasting and revenue distribution, contract termination, and more. The total amount they sued him for amounted to nearly ₩28 KRW (about $0.02 USD).
The courts ruled in Sleepy’s favor in 2021, but TS appealed, only to lose in the court again. Their appeal to the Supreme Court was also dismissed. After this defeat, TS filed a criminal complaint against the rapper and two of his former managers for alleged embezzlement in November last year.
In his social media post, Sleepy mentioned that the police had acquitted him of all charges of embezzlement after a thorough investigation. He also won his civil lawsuit against TS last September after a five-year-long battle. “However, my former agency has continued to make absurd claims and has taken malicious actions, including filing criminal charges against me,” the rapper added.
Hence, Sleepy has decided to hold TS legally accountable through another lawsuit. He explained that although it “may lead to yet another lengthy legal battle,” he wanted to do it to prevent himself or someone else from having to “go through such unfair treatment again.”
