It comes as a surprise for many.
It was recently reported on April 4, 2025, that Red Velvet‘s Wendy and Yeri would be leaving SM Entertainment. While the girls will not renew their exclusive contracts with the company, they would still continue to promote as Red Velvet when it comes to group activities.
Red Velvet’s Wendy And Yeri Officially Leave SM Entertainment
The girls are free to pursue a relationship with a different management company for their solo activities. Surprisingly, many found it a shock that Wendy was leaving, given that the company had supported her all this while.

The Red Velvet members have been in contract talks with SM Entertainment. Seulgi, Irene, and Joy renewed their contracts in August 2023, February 2024, and January 2025 respectively.
