‘Running Point’ Season 2 Gets Production and Release Date Update

Running Point Season 2 Gets Production Update

It’s now been several months since Running Point received its incredibly swift season 2 renewal order from Netflix, and throughout the Spring and now into the Summer, the creative team behind the show has undoubtedly been hard at work on the scripts, but we can reveal that production is gearing up to begin very soon.

Released on February 27, 2025, the series was a near-instant success on Netflix, leading to a renewal just a week later on March 6. The series spent five weeks in the Netflix top 10, clocking 168.90 million hours watched, which equates to 33.3 million views globally. It also spent time in the weekly top 10s of 89 countries.

Upon the renewal, co-creator and EP on the show, Mindy Kaling, said, “We are so thrilled to be able to deliver a Season 2 of Running Point to the fans of the show. We still cannot believe the response from audiences – thank you to everyone who has watched! Thank you to our partners at Netflix, Warner Brothers, our star who brought this show to life, Kate Hudson, and of course, Executive Producers Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis, without whom there would be no Running Point.”

Since then, all has gone quiet on the future of the show – until now. We can confirm that the show is already gearing up for production again in August 2025, with a preliminary filming start date set for August 11th. It’ll then shoot for around three and a bit months, with a tentative wrap date set for November 20, 2025. It’ll return to its filming home of Los Angeles, California.

The series is reportedly in the cost range of $30 million to $50 million per season. Kate Hudson, Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, and Chet Hanks, among others, are expected to return for the second season.

What does all this mean for a release date? Well, it certainly rules out any hope that Season 2 would return in 2025, but that was expected. It’s early days, but our intel suggests that the series may return sometime in April 2026, as it currently stands. That’d make it a key candidate for Netflix’s slate for the Emmy Awards, which has a cut-off at the end of May 2026.

As always, production dates and release dates this far in advance are highly subject to change due to numerous factors. We’ll have a full rundown of all the new Netflix movies and series that will be in production in the Fall in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
