An actress who earned the nickname “Nation’s Daughter” is embroiled in a new scandal following an altercation with a nurse.
Hirosue Ryoko is a popular Japanese actress and singer who has appeared in dozens of films and television series since the 1990s, including Wasabi (2001)and Departures (2008). On April 8 at around 12:20 a.m., Hirosue allegedly kicked and grabbed a female nurse by the arm and was arrested at the scene, Shimada City General Medical Center in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. The nurse reportedly suffered abrasions from the incident.
What led to the alleged assault? According to local news reports, Hirosue visited Nara Prefecture at around 6:50 p.m. on April 7 to film a movie. On her way home to Tokyo, the actress caused a highway collision, hitting another vehicle with her car. Some reports have stated that her manager was also in the car, but not driving it. Hirosue was transported to the hospital to treat her minor injuries.
Following her arrest, Hirosue tested negative for illegal drugs during an initial drug screening, which she underwent voluntarily. However, drug use–such as legal over-the-counter medication–has not been ruled out as police continue to investigate to determine the cause of the crash and the alleged assault.
This isn’t the first time Hirosue Ryoko’s personal life has made headlines. In June 2023, reports claimed that Hirosue was having an affair with celebrity chef Toba Shusaku. After initially denying the affair, she admitted to the affair and apologized.
