Hong Kong singer Jeremy Lee, a member of popular boy group MIRROR, has been accused of plagiarizing Stray Kids.
In particular, Jeremy’s latest release, “Tie Me Now,” is said to have plagiarized Stray Kids Bang Chan & Hyunjin‘s “Red Lights.” “Tie Me Now” was composed by Jeremy himself, but he did not serve as the arranger.
Netizens edited and merged the two songs for a comparison. While some do not believe they sound similar, many are sure plagiarism is present.
A fan even noticed that “Red Lights” is included in Jeremy’s personal music recommendation playlist on a streaming platform, concluding that Jeremy must know the song exists.
Following heated discussions online, Jeremy finally spoke up on the matter through his Instagram account.
“‘Tie Me Up’ is the first fast-paced song I composed. I saw that netizens pointed out similarities between my song and another song, and fans have been anxious and engaged in debates. I feel sad seeing this.
This song led to confusion and arguments. It was definitely not something I wanted to see. I also did not intend to plagiarize. I’m sorry for causing disappointment and displeasure.”
