Despite some stiff competition in recent years, Troll from Norway remains Netflix’s biggest international movie to date, and its sequel has finally been confirmed to be hitting Netflix in December 2025 as part of Netflix’s impressive Fall 2025 movie slate. Here’s an update on Troll 2, including its release date, new first looks courtesy of an official teaser, and more information that has just been released.

Released in 2022, the first Troll movie seemingly came out of nowhere to take the crown of being the most-watched Netflix Original international movie within its first 91 days of launch. Although nearly topped by Under Paris last year, the first movie still holds the record at 103 million views in its first 91 days.

Netflix has also provided a big new synopsis for the upcoming season, giving us an idea of what to expect:

“When a dangerous new troll is awakened, unleashing devastation across Norway, beloved adventurers Nora, Andreas and Captain Kris are thrust into their most perilous mission yet. To stop the creature’s ruthless rampage, they must enlist new allies and delve into the country’s ancient history, searching for answers. As the clock ticks and the troll’s path of destruction grows wider, our heroes face impossible odds in their fight to save their homeland from falling into darkness.”

Speaking about the new entry, director Roar Uthaug said in a statement: “I am beyond proud of how audiences around the globe connected with the first Troll film far beyond what we imagined. With the sequel, we are aiming high – expanding the scope, deepening the story, and creating a troll-sized spectacle like you’ve never seen before. I cannot wait for fans to experience the adventure we have in store.”

Returning for the sequel are Mads Sjøgård Pettersen as Captain Kristoffer Holm, Kim Falck as Andreas Isaksen, and Ine Marie Wilmann as Nora Tidemann. They’re joined by Sara Khorami as Marion Rhadani, described as a “fierce newcomer.”

Motion Blur is the production company behind the movie, which was also behind the WW2 film Number 24 that dropped on Netflix earlier this year. We were told back in January that the movie was currently deep in post-production and that the team was actively “exploring more collaborations with Netflix, whether it’s theatrical releases or streaming originals.”

Troll 2 releases on Netflix globally on December 1st, 2025. The sequel has a runtime of 100 minutes (1 hour 40 minutes).
