Netflix has confirmed it’ll be hosting weekly episodes of the new Japanese TBS series Cinderella Closest beginning today in select regions around the world, including the United States and the United Kingdom, among many others.
First unveiled earlier this year, the series brings to life the long-running manga series from Wakana Yanai with Ayako Katō (Chihayafuru, Stitch!: Itazura Alien no Daibōken) and Satsuki Orito behind the script and Ryōsuke Fukawa, Kana Torii, and Hironobu Okano on directing duties.
Described as a romantic drama coming-of-age series, the show revolves around Haruka, who leaves the countryside to study in Tokyo but feels out of place among her stylish classmates, until she meets a beautiful, mysterious fashionista.
Osaki Ichika (Tomorrow, I Will Be Someone’s Girlfriend) stars as Fukunaga Haruka, and Matsumoto Leo (Silent) plays Kamiyama Hikaru in lead roles, while Hachimura Rintaro (Old Rookie) as Kurotaki Keisuke, KARUMA (Shibuya Near Family) as Kiriya Shu, and Mito Yuna (My Love Mix-Up!) as Suzuki Mio take on supporting roles.
This show is just the latest acquisition from the Japanese network TBS by Netflix in recent years, released on a weekly schedule, in addition to hosting several catalog shows that Netflix offers in the US and around the world. Earlier this year, Netflix picked up new episodes of Hell of a Year every week from the network, and last year, the streamer picked up Love is a Poison, Dear Sa-chan, and Light of My Life, among others.
New episodes are reportedly scheduled to arrive on Wednesday, according to an official notice on the Netflix page for the show, which appeared overnight. However, it’s not expected that the episode will touch down much later in the day in the US or even on Thursday.
