Fan-Favorite Series ‘Heartland’ Scheduled to Leave Netflix in the US

Heartland Leaving Netflix Us August 2025

A staple of Netflix in the United States for over a decade, Heartland has found millions of fans through the platform. However, in recent years, the rights to the show have become a bit tangled, and it now looks like the series could be leaving Netflix in the US after its decade-long run in August 2025. That would mean seasons 17 and even 18 likely won’t be coming to the streamer as originally expected. Here’s what we know.

Serving as CBC’s longest-running show in the network’s history, with episodes first airing in 2007 and new ones being produced at present, Heartland has followed a multi-generational family living on a ranch in Alberta, Canada, through times both good and bad. The show was just recently renewed for a 19th season with an additional 10 episodes on the way.

Netflix has been part of the story for Heartland since the early 2010s when it first licensed the show in the US and later in international territories. It’s time on Netflix US; it looks to be coming to an end, assuming no last-minute renewal occurs.

In a support chat with Netflix, we were told, “Netflix licenses TV shows and movies from studios around the world. Although we strive to keep the titles you want to watch, some titles may leave Netflix due to licensing agreements. Whenever a TV show or movie license is expiring, we consider things such as: If the rights to the title are still available, how popular it is in a region, and how much it costs to license.”

The good news is that if the removal does come to pass, the show does remain streaming elsewhere in the United States. As has been the case for the past few years, UP Faith & Family remains the first-run home for new seasons, which was once again the case with season 18 earlier this year. The series is available in full or in part on Hallmark+, Prime Video, Peacock, The CW, and The Roku Channel, among other locations.

Netflix still carries the show internationally, but it has changed in recent years. In 2022, Netflix in all international territories removed earlier seasons of the show, although they continued to license newer ones, often a year ahead of Netflix US.

The show continues to attract a large audience on Netflix, despite the earlier seasons being available only on Netflix US. According to Netflix Engagement Reports covering viewership for all of 2023 and 2024, the show garnered over half a billion viewing hours during that period, equivalent to just under 55 million views.

It’s shaping up to be a very busy summer of removals from Netflix US on the TV front. July saw some significant removals, including the first wave of HBO and Disney shows, with more planned for August. Also, potentially leaving Netflix throughout August are all the AMC shows that landed last Summer. We’ll keep you posted on everything departing, as listed in our comprehensive removals schedule for the month
