On April 4, KST, the Constitutional Court of South Korea gave a historic ruling and formally impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol by a sweeping 8-0 verdict.
In an unprecedented move, the major broadcasters in the country decided to either cancel or delay many of their regularly scheduled programs for the impeachment. Instead, they chose to prioritize the live coverage of the hearing and the aftermath, prompting some major schedule changes.
Here’s a non-comprehensive list of all the networks that made changes to their scheduled shows due to Yoon’s impeachment:
KBS
Since 9 AM KST, KBS1 aired a continuous “News Special” covering the political upheaval. KBS2, however, kept its Friday variety shows, such as Music Bank and THe Seasons, on schedule.
MBC
MBC postponed the premiere of its highly-anticipated weekend K-Drama, Crushology 101, to April 11. Instead, it aired live coverage of the impeachment from 8:30 AM KST. However, the broadcaster will still air its popular variety show, I Live Alone, at 11:10 PM KST.
SBS
SBS started airing a “News Special” from 7:40 AM KST, and all its variety programs scheduled for the day were canceled. Only the new SBS K-Drama Buried Hearts will broadcast at 9:50 PM KST.
JTBC
JTBC aired its reality show, Divorce Camp, one day in advance on April 3 to run impeachment-related coverage on April 4.
Channel A
Channel A prioritized impeachment reporting majorly and scrapped all its Friday lineup, including shows such as My Golden Kids and Heart Pairing.
