Matthew McConaughey’s Mom Kay Reflects on 3 Weddings and Divorces with the Same Man: Not Many People Can Say That
The third time’s a charm for Kay McConaughey!
Matthew McConaughey‘s mom, Kay McConaughey, knows love can sometimes be tricky.
In a recent interview with Austin Lifestyle, the 93-year-old mother of three revealed that not only did she marry and divorce her late husband three times, but she was the one who initially proposed!
“Jim McConaughey couldn’t make up his mind whether he wanted to get married or not,” Kay said of the Dazed and Confused actor’s dad, who died in 1992.

Kay continued, saying she and Jim met in college and they were “pretty tight,” but their closeness didn’t mean that it would lead to an instant relationship. She “knew he loved me,” but without a proper commitment. She planned on moving back to New York and chasing her dreams of modeling.
Then she came up with a plan to deliver the ultimatum.
“So, I sent him an invitation to his wedding and I said if you can make it, fine, but if you don’t show up at the altar, then it’s over and I’m going to New York,” Kay told Austin Lifestyle.
Her idea worked, and the rest was history.
“It wasn’t that he didn’t love me, he simply could not make up his mind. And I don’t think he wanted to get married at the time, but I wanted to get married!” Kay said.

However, the first (or second) marriage didn’t come without issues. The former couple went on to have three weddings and three divorces.
“Not many people can say that,” Kay admitted before describing each ceremony.
“I had three traditional real weddings, once in the Presbyterian church, once in the Catholic church and once in the Methodist church,” she told the outlet.
After Jim died in the early ‘90s, Kay found love once again around 2000, this time with a man named C.J., whom she referred to as her “soulmate.” Though the pair never married, they “were together for 17 years until he died of leukemia.”
Kay mentioned she never had any interest in remarrying after Jim: “I never wanted to. I was just so happy to have two men in my life that I loved.”

Now 93 years old, Kay has lived a stress-free life and is happy to share how she’s managed to do it.
“I think a lot has to do with my positive attitude. I have a positive attitude, and I eat well. I eat clean. I exercise,” she said.
Her exercise of choice is pilates, which she happens to do about four times a week for an hour to stay fit.
But according to Kay, “the biggest thing for me is I don’t stress.” And anytime she finds herself in that type of situation, she’s learned to remove herself.
“I don’t have to fix everything, and for me, that’s a very positive. Women think they always have to fix everything, and I don’t think that way. I will help you, but I’m not going to stress over fixing everything, So, my main things are I eat clean, I exercise and I don’t stress,” Kay said.
