Park Hyungsik’s “Unprotected Sex” Scene In New SBS K-Drama Slammed With Scathing Reviews

“I feel like the scriptwriter doesn’t know how romantic scenes work…”

Buried Hearts, SBS‘s new revenge thriller K-Drama starring ZE:A member-turned-actor Park Hyungsik and actress Hong Hwa Yeon, premiered on February 21, 2025 (KST) and has since been slammed with some scathing viewer reviews for a sex scene deemed inappropriate.

In the first episode, as the plot set up for the biggest twist at the end, Park Hyungsik and Hong Hwa Yeon had multiple intimate scenes.

While the repetitive kiss scenes didn’t sit well with the viewers either…

  • “Yo, how many times are they going to kiss?”
  • “You know what? All the lip smacking is making me laugh now, LOL.”
  • “It’s like they’re under a kissing spell.”
  • “Bro…”
  • “Kissing… again.”
  • “Can they stop kissing? Like please?”

…it was an unprotected sex scene that had the viewers most taken aback.

In the scene, Hong Hwa Yeon tells Park Hyungsik to “just do it” as he reaches for a drawer—assumed to be in search of a condom. So, with her consent, Park Hyungsik skips the glove and makes love.

Following the episode, viewers expressed disgust at the condomless sex scene and condemned all the latest K-Dramas becoming too provocative:

  • “I feel like the scriptwriter doesn’t know how romantic scenes work… The lines during the sex scene? I was appalled.”
  • “The whole show is cringe, LOL. I’m sure people who like it, like it. But I can’t watch it. It’s barf.”
  • “I don’t even care about the kissing. The condomless sex scene caught me off guard.”

  • “Buried condoms. Barf.”
  • [Deleted]
  • “WTF…?”
  • “I was real let down with them skipping the condom…”

Of course, Buried Hearts is just one episode in. So, despite the backlash, some viewers remain hopeful that the following episodes will be more revenge thriller—now that the plot is actually set for revenge.
