Following the court’s most recent ruling that rejected NJZ‘s (Newjeans) objection to overturn the ban on their independent activities, public sentiment seems to be shifting further away from the girl group’s favor. Korean forums lit up shortly after the news broke, with many netizens voicing their criticism toward both the members and their fans.
The backlash stems from the group’s ongoing legal dispute with their agency ADOR. NJZ had previously announced the termination of their exclusive contracts in November last year, but the court ruled in March that the group cannot carry out independent promotions or sign advertising contracts without ADOR’s involvement. On April 16, the Seoul Central District Court officially dismissed the group’s appeal, solidifying the restriction.
NJZ’s (NewJeans) Injuction Appeal Denied By Court
What followed was a wave of critical responses from netizens, who took to TheQoo to express their frustration with NJZ and their fans.
- “Honestly, up until yesterday, I was rooting for NewJeans to go back to HYBE, but after seeing the situation with the HYBE producer, I think NewJeans fans are way too toxic. I hope they don’t go back now.”
- “They’re seriously so arrogant and full of themselves, I have nothing to say…
Did they really think they made it big just because they’re that talented? LOL.
They got where they are thanks to all the support and special treatment they received.” - “If they want to leave so badly, they can just pay the penalty and go.”
- “Please take the lawsuit all the way, please.”
- “Neither the group nor their fans seem to understand how cold and harsh the real world is.”
